Reflecting on the Practicum Plan

  1. There were certain components of the Practicum Plan that were helpful. Although a little bit overwhelming, it was nice to get an overview of all the assignments that we would be doing this semester. That way, things weren't really sprung on us at the last minute that we had never heard of or seen before. One thing I didn't really like was having to list dates of when we would like to complete our learning goals. Listing our learning goals was fine, but I feel like listing dates for them was pointless, as you naturally learn more with the more experience you get. You can't really put a date on it, because you don't know. I know we talked in Seminar about how the Practicum Plan would be more helpful as a calendar rather than a list, and I definitely agree with that too. It was also good to get our mentor teacher's approval on this list, so that they knew what was expected of us as well. I think that with just a few small changes, the Practicum Plan could be a valuable organizational tool.

  2. I agree that identifying dates for learning goals was a little unnecessary. The learning goals should be designed more to drive what you are putting into the semester rather thatn completing assignments for the semester. Maybe instead of setting dates, have Benedum students identify 3 things that they can actively do in their PDS to help them achieve their learning goals. This may be something that they are already completing for a class, or it could be something extra that they choose to add or explore.
