Personal Education Philosophy

  1. I think one of the most important things to be covered in an educational philosophy is the dedication to becoming a life-long learner. This means being open to new teaching methods and strategies, not being stuck in your old ways. It means being aware of what is going on in your classroom every day, and always thinking of ways to improve your teaching. Another big part of my personal educational philosophy is the commitment to always be fair. This means giving every student a fair chance, and not immediately writing them off. It also means to not forget to challenge the students who are doing well in school. I think so often we as teachers get caught up in trying to help the learners who are falling behind (which is definitely important) but we sometimes neglect the average or gifted students. These students are our future, so we want to make sure we prepare all of them as best as we can.

Question: What are some important things that you would include in your own personal education philosophy?

  2. You make some excellent points, Amy. I really agree with the point we focus on the students that are falling behind, and we often forget those students that are accelerating. We do need to put an equal focus on all the students because they are our future. We need to motivate them so they want to achieve great things and set high goals. I also agree an educator needs to make the commitment to be a lifelong learner. I know for a fact I've learned a great deal from more from first graders this year than I've learned from a few professional educators. I've learned a lot about myself as an educator from my experiences and interactions with these students.

In my personal education philosophy, I incorporated my dedication to making sure my students are successful and constantly challenged. I don't want my students to be bored or turned off to school because they are over-challenged. I think there is a happy medium, and it is our job to find that as quickly as possible to meet the needs of our students.
